Wee!!! I'm finished. Much was learned as the OCL webthings committee led us through this Web 2.0 journey. Setting up my very own blog and learning what Web 2.0 has to offer was exciting and interesting.

Some webthings I will use include blogging, rss feeds and library thing. Webthings I have been using include del.icio.us, netlibrary and WorldCat.

#22 Listen NJ

ListenNJ is another good option in reading or in this case listening to audiobooks without going into the physical library building. It is great that so many titles are available to listen to either by downloading to an mp3 player or by listening to it via Windows media player. The latter was the way I listened to a selection on my desktop.

Hoorah OCL! for providing yet another way to provide a collection to the web user at his/her internet space.

Thing #9 Finding Feeds

Finding feeds was rather fun and easy. I established a bloglines account and added 10 feeds. I tried Topix, Syndic8 and Technorati. The most useful to me is Syndic8 for its contents such as news headlines.

I found DMOZ.org in Syndic8, an open directory info I've used for library research. The best way to find RSS feeds is to go to my favorite site and look for the RSS feeds symbol or similar and subscribe.

This is one tool I have not used before today. It is a convenient way to view a show at any time as long as it is available. I can see how this tool has practical applications such as viewing lessons for teaching or learning. I tried podcast.com and Odeo.

I agree this Web 2.0 tool is one of the best innovations in video viewing. To be able to view or share video clips created by anyone around the world istruly amazing. Seomoz.org/web2.0 awards is an impressive and useful site to view topic categories. One such category is called Lists and Polls for compiling lists of everything and for statistics.

I will definitely bookmark this site.

The two web apps Google docs and Zoho are an excellent tool for wordprocessing without investing in a comprehensive proprietary program. I will suggest it to my mom who does not own a computer at this time, but uses the one in her retirement complex. It does not have MS word on it and can only use word pad which she says does not have the features she needs.

I am currently using Google docs collaboratively in a group project for a LIB class. It works great. We can edit and contribute to the document. I'd like to try Zoho.

I think that wiki is a great tool for the library to coordinate programming between commitees or program teams. On the other hand, I prefer Google Docs because I feel that the User Interface is much easier and user friendly.

A Wiki is a potential great tool for shared knowledge about a subject without having to be published. With the exception of having to provide email before contributing to a wiki, it is a free opportunity to contribute knowledge and perspectives on any topic or subject matter.

Thing #15 Library 2.0

"Into a new world of librarianship" is one perspective I concur with as related to Lib 2.0 and Librarian 2.0. Some traits like Librarian 2.0 planning for their users by embracing Web 2.0 tools such as weblogs, rss and wikis in for instance one page has credence for application to librarianship.

The use of content and its ease of access and availability and meeting users in their space ought to be central to libraries' for their future.

Not sure I see the purpose of Technorati, but it was easy to navigate through and find bloggers with similar interests.

This social bookmarking tool is easy to use and is a good resource of sites that are tagged by subject or similar connection. I use it as well.

Thing #12 Netlibrary and Worldcat

Netlibrary and Worldcat are two excellent sources to use. Netlibrary is another OCL collection to look into if one is comfortable reading a book on a computer screen. I've used it when looking for non-fiction sources for my classes. It carries some computer titles that are noteworthy.

Worldcat of course I used when filling ILL forms for patrons at reference. It is clear and easy to navigate. You can get specifics about a book OCL does not own, but that for instance, a college library or other library system in NJ owns. I highly recommend both.

Library thing is a useful site for cataloging your personal library and for connecting with others who have similar reading tastes. I am also thinking of it to find a specific book one would like to own that someone else has, but is not available for purchase. The only peeve was setting up another user name and password.

Thing #10 Technology blogging

Technology is amazing and thank God for our current age of technology. The list can be endless as to what we can no longer live without such as the cell phone, laptop, mp3 player, head phones etc... I must admit that I discovered not having my cell phone while traveling can be handicapping. Public phones are scarce or non-existent in most places now. So, the cell phone is a necessity for me. 71/2 Habits to Lifelong Learning

I've always been a promoter of lifelong learning. Learning is a daily activity which occurs the minute we awake. Even as we sleep we subconsciously learn.

Of the 7 1/2 learning habits in the tutorial the:

Easiest for me is: Teaching and mentoring others. I love to share what I learn with others.

The hardest: Viewing all problems as challenges. It depends on the issue. Some challenges can seem quite overwhelming, but in the end they are challenges calling the person experiencing the problem to utilize their critical thinking skills among some tools toward address and resolution.
